Technology Help
  • If you touch F11 you will expand your web browser and see more of the web page you are viewing. 

  • If you use the word site:k12.mi.us after typing in your google search it will limit the content to MI educational websites. 

  • You can visit websites in other countries by using the Country Code and typing it in after your search like you did in your google search for education websites. For example if you wanted to see some educational web sites about the Revolutionary War from the point of view of the British you would type (in the google search bar): "Revolutionary War" site:uk

  • You could even copy and paste what ever I have posted on this website right into google. Note that this will not work with other search engines but they do have similar commands.

  • You zoom into your web browser by holding the ctrl (control) key and using the roller on your mouse. Note this only works on computers the have a scroll button on their mouse.

Web Quest
  • ARISS Web Quest This is a web quest that takes you through the NASA sites that are listed below. This web quest is in conjunction with Mission 12.

  • Skeleton - This web quest covers in detail all the bones of the body. In fourth grade we classify animals by whether or not they have a backbone. This web quest takes it a step further.

  • Student Portfolio - this is the self evaluation form for the parent teacher conferences.

  • World Book Web Search - Test your skills on how to best use the online encyclopedia. This is intended to be used with the World Book Encyclopedia website.

  • World Book US Tour- Test your skills on how to best use the online encyclopedia. This is intended to be used with the World Book Encyclopedia website.

     

NASA
  • NASA News -this link will bring you the latest NASA News. This is the one you wanted Pops.

  • Track the International Space Station from your computer to your back yard sky line. Observe the ultimate Hotel in space where your seat is reserved from the comfort of your personal computer.  

  • Three man mission - This web site provides the latest scoop about the third man that was added to mission 12. Gregory Olsen is a scientist/businessman from NJ. He is the third person to pay for his own way into space on board the Russian Spacecraft. 

  • NASA Home Page -this is the NASA home page and is remarkably easy to navigate.

  • NASA for kids - This website has become the favorite of the entire class. Ever wonder how much things might weigh on Mars? Go to this website and find out. They have educational games and fun activities for all ages.

  • Moon Landing - If you are interested in looking at the moon then you will love this map site. Google brings us another winner with a map of the moon landings from the Apollo missions.

  • This is a cool link that illustrates how the phases of the moon occur.

  • ISS Tracking - This site also allows you to track the ISS and daylight hours. 

  • Cool Planet Game - This is a cool game allowing you to virtually fly a space craft around our galaxy.

  • Solar system scope- This is a link to a cool virtual tour of the galaxy. This program allows you to turn back time and see how the planets were aligned on any  particular date

Math
  • Every Day Math Student Log In - This plus a user name and password will open up the online learning adventure.

  • Everyday Math Quick Link

  • This is a link to the EDM log in page.- CA elementary students have an account with Everyday Math online. There are many educational resources at the site including interactive games. 

  • Area and Perimeter ~ This link we use as a class to help us understand how to find area and perimeter.

  • Global Competition - arcademicskillbuilders.com is a neat site which allows students to compete with other students around the world in many different academic ways. Keep in mind we never give out personal information online. This site is a fun way to keep your times tables fresh in your head. You can actually play this game on your Nintendo Wii.

  • www.multiplication.com - This is an awesome website that really makes learning your times tables a blast. They have flash cards and plenty of cool games for all levels of mathematicians. 

  • Math Baseball This site is one of my favorite sites for practicing your math facts.

  • Online Math Dictionary - This is a really cool online math dictionary that incorporates an interactive media tools. For instance you can not only look up the word abacus you can use an online version of an abacus.

  • Interactive Math - This site has all kinds of manipulates for kids of all ages. 

  • Washington DC - A virtual tour of the US Capital.

  • Exchange rates - This site has over one hundred sixty exchange rates from around the world.

  • Eqypt - This is the web site recommended by our Everyday Math Book. 

  • MATH RELIEF This site is one of the best math sites I have seen in a few years. This site can help your son or daughter with their math homework from k-7. It was also amazing how many students already know how to use this site.

  • Math games from the UK - This site has a host fun games. Keep in mind this site is located in the UK so some of the terms are different.

  • I love the resources of this site- This site contains videos, lessons, and games for fourth graders. This site works as a great resource for understanding study island concepts. It sorts games by math concepts covered.

  • Math Resource- This is a cool website for teachers and students with a variety of cool activities.

  • Cool Curriculum Math - This is a neat site that helps students understand math by standard.

  • Interactive Site  -This site works very well with a smart board but it also has many educational math games.

  • Main Link Site- This site has many educational links.

  • Alien Cook Book -This is a link to a neat game which connects measurement and fractions.

  • Standard Conversion- this game helps students understand the measurement system.

  • This is a link to a Stanford web site about our solar system. Check your knowledge or just check out a cool site created by a top university.  

     

    Super Science- In science, we sometimes read from this magazine. The magazine is has cool science connections to what are covering (or have covered) in the classroom. Click here to see an EPA word search that can be printed off and completed for extra credit in Mr. Anderson's science class.

     

  • Environmental - This is a cool site that has all kinds of fun games for kids that relate to water conservation, ecosystems, human health , and recycling.

  • www.africam.com - We have been learning about animal classification in science. We have been able to visit animals of the African Savannah live at this website.

  • Severe Weather - Get a preview of our end of the year unit on weather. This site has a neat 8 minute video on tornadoes.Though 4th grade no longer covers weather this video clip is cool and will remain on my list of links.

  • Pompeii - visit the site of the lost city in Italy. We are discovering the power of Earths land resources in science and this site displays the city that was covered by volcanic ash. 

  • Mount Vesuvius web cam - see the volcano that erupted in 79 AD and is predicted to erupt again every 2,000 years.

  • Bay City We have gone to the state park in Bay City and enjoyed many outdoor activities. This is a link to the DNR's website. You can find national parks and locate different parks around the state.

  • NOAA - this is a link to real time infrared radar of the entire US. It is hosted by the government or .gov. We cover GOES stationary satellites used to help predict weather in science. This type of site helps us understand how we use technology in science in today's world. 

  • Isaac's Storm This site is dedicated to the "Storm of 1900." This storm was one of the worst hurricanes to hit the America's. It taught us a lot about how to prepare for bad weather.

  • The Great Long Island Hurricane - This site shows the damage that was created by a hurricane the swept the NE Coast by surprise. This storm charged four hundred miles into Canada reeking havoc where ever it went.

  • Weather.com - This is a site that can give you an hour by hour weather report 24 hours a day anywhere in the U.S. 

  • Earth View- View the Earth in all of its magnificent glory from space, in real time. This link is out of this world literally. You can view real time pictures of Earth's unnatural lights at night. Looking at these cities, from space, at night, is a wonderful sight.

  • Food Pyramid - Here is a link to help student make healthy choices. This is a fun game Mrs. Keenan, our PE-Nut specialist, recommended.

  • Gone Fishing - In fourth grade we use a specimen collection device (fishing pole) to gather a variety of different vertebrates when take a field trip to the Linden Mill Pond. Then we classify them in to groups according to their characteristics. We use this link to help prepare our understanding of the aquatic ecosystem. This is a neat and valuable resource.

  • Almanac Link- This site is a guide to starting plants indoors or outdoors. 

  • Facts About Fish This goes with one of the web quest activities we do in the classroom.

  • Fishing & Education - This is a link to an fun and educational fishing site.

  • Amazing Simulations -this is an awesome site for setting up series and parallel circuits shared with me by Mr. Coombe at the middle school.

  • Series simulator -this is a more specific page from the amazing simulations link. Students use this simulator to create a circuit. 

  • Properties of matter- This page has many links including videos about chemistry.

  • Consumers Energy -Here is a link to some fun activities offered by Consumers Energy. This relates to the magnets electricity unit covered in fourth grade.

  • Become A storm Spotter - This is good link that came to us from the great state of Maine. In an e-mail a young student named Jacob told me that my site was missing this wonderful link. I couldn't agree more, growing up surfing in MI I always kept my eye to sky to figure out when the waves would arrive. As I learned more about tornados I became more interested in weather. This site has a lot of informative links. 

Language Arts
  • 7 Habits of Happy Kids- I have been using Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in my elementary classroom for years and thought this site would help elaborate on how to use it with youngsters effectively. It helps me reinforce good study habits and leadership skills.

     

    Online Terms- This is a site that has a list of examples for English terms like adjective, noun, verb and much much more.

    Language Arts Games- this site offers a variety of games related to fourth grade language arts.

  • 108 Writing Prompts - This is a site Mr. Moses recomended for writing ideas.

  • DOL - Daily sentence practice, reading, and word sorting 

  • Story Mapping - Mrs. Bausack, a media specialist, showed me this wonderful web site. This site allows you to simply input parts of a story (characters setting etc.) and the site puts them all together for you.

Social Studies
  • Relief Map- Click here to look at the state of MI in the form of elevation.

  • Compare size of states - This site helps put things in perspective. It shows you how to compare states sizes, like the US and Australia are similar in size

  • Social Studies - This is a fun game that makes learning states a blast.

  • Zing Reading- this is our free online e-books source 45A0. Climb into a great book. The after school programs code is 3E2C.

  • 1988 Yellowstone Fire - We are exploring nature as a friend or foe in fourth grade. This is a link to an interactive site found by a fourth grade student named Mariah.

  • Kevin Kammeraad -This is a link to the author of the Tomato Collection web site. He visited Rankin 11-27-07. 

  • Reading is Fun This site has all kinds of cool links to really cool reading web sites. There are links to the book Holes and cool information about the next book by Louis Sachar. It is rumored that the next book by Mr. Sachar is going to be a continuation of the book Holes. Find out that and more at this site.

  • Thanksgiving Games - This website is a site for the Thanksgiving Holiday. You can print out a word search or find out what people are doing around the world on Thanksgiving (because it is a U.S. Holiday). I did not like the pop-up ads but the site but it is still a fun site. Here is a quick link to the interactive class lesson.

  • Plymouth Plantation - This web site gives you a real good idea about how it was like to live around the time of the first Thanksgiving. Be sure to check out the virtual tours of some of the huts.
